KCI Presents New Clinical and Economic Evidence at SAWC/WHS Spring 2014 Conference

SAN ANTONIO--(Healthcare Sales & Marketing Network)--Kinetic Concepts, Inc. today announced ten poster presentations* reporting the results of KCI advanced wound healing therapies will be presented at The Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC) and Wound Healing Society (WHS) Spring 2014 conference in Orlando, Florida on April 25 – April 27.

The presentations report on the use of KCI advanced wound healing therapies and present compelling pre-clinical, clinical and health economic outcomes. In one retrospective analysis of a national claims database, authors found that patients treated with KCI NPWT systems had lower all-cause and wound-related costs and lower hospital re-admission rates than patients treated with competitor NPWT systems.

“These data reinforce the value our therapies offer to healthcare practitioners as they work to reduce cost of care and patient hospital stay,” said Ron Silverman, Chief Medical Officer, KCI. “We are excited to present these data personally to healthcare leaders at SAWC and add to the library of clinical evidence supporting our products.”

Another study presented the use of the CelluTome™ Epidermal Harvesting System for harvesting epidermal grafts used in a non-surgical operating room to treat diabetic foot ulcers, venous leg ulcers or postoperative wounds on patients who had failed standard wound care therapy for greater than 12 weeks. Authors reported that five of six wounds were closed without recurrence.

In a retrospective study of 82 patients, the use of negative pressure wound therapy with instillation (NPWTi – V.A.C. VeraFlo™ Therapy) was compared to traditional NPWT for the treatment of extremity and trunk wounds. Authors concluded automated NPWTi appeared to assist in wound cleansing and exudate removal, which may have allowed for earlier wound closure compared to standard NPWT. Findings from a hypothetical model also illustrated the potential cost effectiveness of NPWTi compared to NPWT in this patient population.
