I am currently a massage therapist looking to change careers into medical sales. My question to you is do I have a chance in this market along side people that have a ton of outside sales experience. Please read my synopsis and let me know if you have any tips or advice on how to proceed.
I graduated from Boston University with a BS in Health Studies. I have taken several anatomy courses. I have reaffirmed my knowledge thru massage therapy school and have been practicing for 10 years, 3 on my own and 7 with the chiropractor. Though I don't have outside sales experience I do believe my daily life says a lot for my selling skills. My product is my massage skills. I market it as something to help people get out of pain. I listen to their complaint, I empathise, and then explain and put into action our plan. I constantly check in on the plan and make adjustments as needed to ensure a successful outcome. I have an excellent rapport with my clients. We chat about family and vacations. I like them to feel special, not like a number or just another client. Trust is very important to ensure they can discuss issues with me rather than seeking out another massage therapist. If something isnt working for them they feel they can speak up and we work together to resolve it.. Before my client leaves the office I "close" the next sale with rebooking them. I have a near 100% rebook rate. Not only do they rebook they often book 3-4 sessions out. I know my product well and can sell it well.
Aside from the sales aspect and my anatomy background, I have spent years along side my sick mom, in and out of the hospital. Being her health care proxy I have talked to many a doctor and staff. I feel totally comfortable talking with them and being around them. I'm not shy. I truly think if given the chance I will do very well and progress throught the company making lots of money for me and the company!
So far to prepare myself for my new career I have read blogs, watched youtube videos and made contacts in the business to learn the in's and out's. I plan on making a brag book and a 30-60-90 day plan. Once I can hopefully score an interview I will learn the company and product as well as I can beforehand.
So, with all this being said, do I have a chance here?
Any tips, advice or leads would be greatly appreciated!
Don't put so much emphasis and a brag book and 30-60-90 when you don't have alot of experience with them They can help, but can also hurt if no presented correctly.
If you have contact with sales people that come into the Chiro's office, get some feedback form them on any companies they can suggest that may be looking for a great salesperson.
