Distributor/Rep Relationship

New to the business and distributor/rep relationship. My question is, what is a fair percentage/commission to be paid by the distributor to the rep? The company pays the distributor 18-20%, what is average for the rep to make?

Many companies/products pay different commissions depending on profit margins. 20% sounds about average and should have performance incentives as well.

Thanks for the response. If the distributor is getting 20%, what is a fair % to pay me, who would be working for the distributor?

The split on the distributors 20 % comm. should be 60/40 or 70/30
That would mean you would be paid either the 60% or 70% of his 20 %.
This could vary depending on whether they are giving you a salary or not.

I am being offered a very small salary and 5%. Doesn't sound like that good of a deal. Thanks.

There are so many factors to put into the equation. You are receiving a salary. You might receive benefits such as expenses, car allowance, insurance etc also. In addition, if you are an employee, your company pays SS matching funds, unemployment insurance etc that all adds up. There is a figure out there that you must sell before your employer gets to keep any of that 20% he brings in. Figuring that out first is the key to getting more money
