Thomas P. Koestler, Ph.D., Elected Head of Schering-Plough R&D
KENILWORTH, N.J., Sept. 19 (HSMN NewsFeed) -- Schering-Plough Corporation (NYSE: SGP ) announced today that its Board of Directors has elected Thomas P. Koestler, Ph.D., as executive vice president and president of Schering-Plough Research Institute (SPRI), the company's pharmaceutical research and development arm.Fred Hassan, Schering-Plough chairman and CEO, said: "R&D is the central engine of an innovation-based health care company such as ours, and Tom Koestler brings exceptional strengths to his new role."
Koestler joined Schering-Plough in August 2003 as head of global regulatory and project management. Before joining Schering-Plough, Koestler held executive positions at Pharmacia Corporation, Novartis, Ortho-McNeil, Inc. and Bristol-Myers Squibb.
Koestler received his Ph.D. degree from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo, Roswell Park Memorial Institute, where he studied medicine and pathology. He holds a B.S. degree in biology from Daeman College, Amherst, N.Y. He serves as vice chairman and an officer of the Children's Specialized Hospital Foundation in Mountainside, N.J. He is married with two children.
