Portable Somnoscreen Sleep-Monitoring System (Somnoscreen PSG) Approved for U.S. Sales
COOPER CITY, Fla., Feb. 7 (HSMN NewsFeed) -- Somnomedics (USA) LLC today announced that it has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval to market its highly successful, miniaturized Somnoscreen sleep-disorder diagnostic system in the United States. The portable Somnoscreen will be shown at the "Focus on Respiratory Care & Sleep Medicine Conference" at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tenn., April 19 to 21.
"The Somnoscreen is the fastest-growing medical device of its kind in Europe and is now expanding to the North American marketplace," said Allan F. Brack, Somnomedics vice president of sales for the Americas. Somnomedics (USA) LLC is the North American marketing arm of Somnomedics GmbH of Kist, Germany.
"With the Somnoscreen it is now easier than ever to accurately diagnose the millions of patients suffering from all varieties of sleep disorders, including life-threatening sleep apnea conditions," Brack said.
Sleep laboratories around the world have been successfully using the Somnoscreen for three years and more than 750 Somnoscreen systems are currently being used to diagnose and evaluate patients, Brack said.
The palm-sized Somnoscreen is the smallest, full-featured, sleep- monitoring system available today. It is a completely portable Polysomnograph that provides unparalleled mobility for the patient and the sleep practitioner.
The light, fully contained Somnoscreen wirelessly transmits data to the practitioner's PC, where it can be monitored in real time or stored for later evaluation. The 28-channel wireless transmission allows the patient to sleep more normally, using the bathroom when necessary and avoiding the anxiety of being tethered to a bed with wires and electrodes.
With the addition of the mobile, digital video and audio option, with built-in infrared light source and radio transmitter, the patient can be monitored without multiple cabling. The Somnoscreen is available in a variety of configurations from a simple screener to a full sleep-laboratory system with telemetry and video. The modular design can be upgraded at any time.
