Coloplast Expands SenSura(R) Ostomy Brand
New barrier technology provides greater security; preferred by 86 percent of participants in clinical trialsMINNEAPOLIS--(HSMN NewsFeed)--Coloplast, a global leader in ostomy care, has expanded its new SenSura® line, featuring the revolutionary Circle of Security, to give people with an ostomy renewed confidence to lead a full, active life. The newest product, SenSura Click, is a two-piece pouching system that sets a new standard in ostomy care and comes just six months after the launch of the SenSura brand and its one-piece system.
SenSura products feature Coloplast’s patented Circle of Security – an innovative, new barrier technology that is the first to optimize five core needs: initial tack and adhesion, flexibility, absorption, erosion resistance and ease of removal. Coloplast developed the Circle of Security in direct response to the needs of the ostomy community and in collaboration with more than 400 Wound Ostomy Continence nurses worldwide. As a result, SenSura was designed to specifically address the needs of increased security, comfort and discretion and ultimately give people living with an ostomy greater peace of mind.
“The ostomy community is giving SenSura rave reviews because it’s the first product that doesn’t require users to compromise at any level,” said Julianne Prowse, vice president of Ostomy Sales and Marketing at Coloplast. “We’re finding that once people try the product, they’re no longer willing to settle for less. In fact, a recent clinical study found that 86 percent of participants preferred SenSura to their current system.”
The Circle of Security also provides a new solution for people living with an ostomy who often suffer from painful skin conditions. A 2006 ostomy study published in the British Journal of Nursing found that 45 percent of participants had ostomy-related skin disorders and 77 percent of those disorders were caused by contact between skin and stoma output. SenSura products address this critical and long-standing problem with a double-layer adhesive design that provides significantly better protection from skin irritation.
The SenSura Click two-piece pouching system uses the same barrier technology as the one-piece system with the addition of an easy-to-apply, click-lock security ring. “The user will hear an audible ‘click’ when the product locks into place,” said Prowse. “Our customers tell us it provides the sense of assurance and security they need.”
The SenSura Click line offers a variety of choices to ensure that people living with an ostomy can customize the product to best meet their personal needs and lifestyles. For example, the product is offered in EasiClose™ WIDE and closed pouch outlets, as well as both standard wear Non-Convex and Convex Light options.
“Having an ostomy can be as much of an emotional issue as a physical condition, and it often results in feelings of self-consciousness,” said Prowse. “Coloplast understands this and designed SenSura products to provide a greater level of security so people don’t have to feel that way any longer.”
“No matter what product I used, I could not stop the pouch from leaking,” said Annette Perrone, an ostomy patient from Austin, Texas. “I ordered some SenSura samples on the Coloplast website, and they have been wonderful. The leaking problem is now solved. And the adhesion and flexibility with SenSura has made the most comfortable fit I have found in my seven-month, new life journey.”
Coloplast plans to introduce a number of new SenSura products and expand the line over the next five years. Within the next 12 – 18 months, the company will have an additional two-piece adhesive coupling pouching system available offering the flexibility of a one-piece pouching system.
