SSCOR Introduces Industry's First D Cell-Powered Portable Suction Device

Innovative Manufacturer's New Aspirator Will Help Hospitals, Patients in the Event of a Serious Disaster

SUN VALLEY, CA--(Healthcare Sales & Marketing Network) - SSCOR, Inc., a leading manufacturer of medical devices designed to aid healthcare professionals in clearing patient airways, has introduced the first medical aspirator designed for the emergency preparedness community. The SSCOR DCell Suction is a new innovation for the hospital and medical disaster management sectors in that the device doesn't require an external power source and can be operated using standard D Cell batteries.

Hospitals are responsible for ensuring they can function autonomously in the event of a disaster. In fact, healthcare facilities are mandated to be prepared for major emergencies such as natural disasters, terrorist activity, and other incidents that create mass casualties and surges of patients. If the power is out, the in-hospital vacuum system likely will also be non-functional, and there subsequently will be no way to use emergency suction to clear patient airways. Furthermore, most portable suction devices, though convenient and important for hospital environments, carry a charge of only about an hour before they must be plugged in again (and then require several hours to recharge -- if the power is even restored). The SSCOR DCell Suction typically provides 6-9 hours of life on one set of off-the-shelf ALKaline D Cell batteries that are commonly available.*

Besides hospital settings, the SSCOR DCell Suction is also ideal for establishing medical vacuum sources in remote locations such as patient surge shelters or during evacuation. Features of the DCell include:

  • Depleted batteries can be switched out in minutes.
  • Does not need to be kept on a continuous charge.
  • Can also be powered indefinitely from external DC or AC power.
  • Accommodates standard hospital suction canisters.
  • Comes with a three-year warranty.

* Run time is defined as the period of time that the device generates more than 300 mmHg negative pressure. Total run time typically varies between 6-9 hours. These run time specifications are based upon tests using new Duracell® CopperTop batteries. Run time will vary depending on battery manufacturer, state of the charge, ambient temperature, and age of the batteries.
